  • Day 1: Arrival in Tirana Airport. Drive to Shkodra.

    Welcome to Albania!
We’ll meet and greet you at Tirana International Airport and then transfer to Shkodra, where we’ll be accommodated in a boutique hotel in the heart of the characteristic neighbourhood of Gjuhadol. Based on your arrival time, we can organize visits to historical attractions such as the Castle of Kruja, Castle of Rozafa, Mesi Bridge, or arrange a guided tour in the city of Shkodra. At the hotel, we’ll organize an orientation workshop designed to facilitate introductions among participants, discuss the program, and infuse guiding values throughout our journey: respecting and supporting local communities, preserving cultural heritage, minimizing waste and plastic usage, and respecting nature and biodiversity. After the orientation session, a delightful dinner awaits, marking the beginning of our Albanian journey with good food and local wines.

    Meals included: Welcome dinner
    Overnight: Hotel in Shkodra
    Drive time: 2.5 hours

  • Day 2: Travel to Lepushe. Hiking from Lepusha to Vuthaj/Vusanje

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll drive to Lepushe, passing through the scenic Kelmendi region with a stop in Tamara, near the Cemi River canyons. Upon arriving in Lepushe, our hiking journey kicks off towards Vuthaj village. Crossing the Albania-Montenegro border, we ascend to the Peak of Vajusha/Talijanka (2056m) and continue to a narrow valley nestled between the karst tower of Karanfili. Here, we’ll marvel at the dramatic grey mountains of the Accursed Mountains massive, offering breathtaking views of the Balkans. But that’s not all—our journey continues in the picturesque Grebaje Valley, a lush masterpiece shaped by the Ice Age through glacier retreat, mirroring the other valleys on this tour. After completing the hike, we’ll take a minivan for a 30-minute drive to Vuthaj in Montenegro. Upon reaching Vuthaj, we’ll relax in a village guesthouse and enjoy a traditional dinner.

Starting with the Grla waterfall and the Eye of the Grasshopper, we trek through valleys, including Lake Ropojan/Geshtares at the Montenegro-Albania border. The trail continues with a steep but enjoyable ascent through an old forest to the meadow of Runica, where colorful mountain flowers bloom. Along the way, we visit a friendly Albanian shepherd in his secluded shack, adding a unique touch to the journey. Crossing Runica, the trail ascends into valleys, creating a stunning staircase with the backdrop of Arapi Mount Peak. At the base, the Theth Valley unfolds, offering breathtaking views. The descent through the Qafa of Peja brings us to the village of Theth.

  • Day 4: Hiking from Theth to Valbona

This renowned Albanian Alps hike, often overcrowded, has lost some of its charm due to popularity. However, our team offers a refreshed experience by choosing the less-crowded Denelli trail instead of the typical Valbona Pass route. This alternative not only avoids crowds but also provides breathtaking views of Thethi, Curraj, and Valbona valleys, while contributing to minimizing negative environmental impact. In the initial three hours, the trail ascends through a dense forest, offering occasional breaks with panoramic views of Theth and surrounding valleys. Further up, we reach Denelli field, a stunning grassland surrounded by towering mountains. The hike proceeds to Boshi Pass, offering a view of Curraj Valley, and continues to Zhapora Pass (2151 m), leading us to Valbona Valley. A brief 30-minute drive takes us to the Valbona guesthouse for the overnight stay.

  • Day 5: Hiking from Cerem to Doberdol

After a car transfer to Cerem village, our trek starting point, we head towards Doberdol along a scenic trail. After approximately two-hour hike, we’ll cross the border into Montenegro, passing through pine forests where, depending on the season, you may encounter blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. The captivating trail reaches its highest point, Ajluci Pass, at 2100 meters above sea level. Along the way, we pause at shepherd’s hut villages for a refreshing beverage. These summer-only habitats provide a unique perspective into the shepherds’ pastoral lifestyle. Our day concludes in Doberdol, situated at about 1800 meters above sea level. We’ll spend the night in a shepherd’s hut (4-5 people shared room, toilet outside). After a home-cooked dinner, relax by the bonfire, and learn more about the region’s shepherding lifestyle.

  • Day 6: Hiking Doberdol-Babino Polje-Vermosh

The hike from the remote Albanian village of Doberdol to the beautiful Montenegrin valley of Babino Polje is an unforgettable adventure. Beginning with a climb to Tromeda/Trekufiri Peak, relish the unique experience of standing in three countries simultaneously: Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro. The next segment, known as “Flat Mountain,” is a favorite among many. The mountaintop extends into a plateau with a trail winding through blueberry bushes, creating a relaxed walk in pristine nature. The hike leads to Fairy/Hridsko Jezer Lake, named after legends of inhabiting fairies, offering a refreshing swim opportunity.
